I never had a desire to write a book until I was inspired by my wife’s struggle with cystic fibrosis and her journey to get a double lung transplant. I’m an engineer, a manager, a marketer, and a martial artist…and I suppose now, an author. "About this title" may belong to another edition of this title.Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written. Ray does not enjoy running, but he does it anyway.like a boss. In his spare time, Ray enjoys working on his cars, lifting weights, and entertaining friends and family. He holds a third degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and has trained and competed in several martial arts including Muay Thai and Jujitsu. He became a member of the Wisconsin CFF Leadership Board and later won the 2014 Eaton Stover Volunteerism award. Inspired by his wife Rebecca and her struggles with Cystic Fibrosis, Ray became involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and was named “Milwaukee’s Finest” in 2013 in honor of his volunteerism and fundraising efforts. Ray has earned a patent, a lean six-sigma certification, and has won two national championships in fighting. Throughout his career, he has worked in Operations, Engineering Management, and Marketing. Raymond Poole earned a BS degree in Mechanical and Materials Engineering from the University of Connecticut as well as an MBA from Indiana University. I hope that these lessons can help others going through challenging periods in their lives and in the lives of loved ones. I also learned several lessons that helped me get through the situation, both in the hospital and outside of it. I even learned of Rebecca's weird affinity for tapioca pudding even though she was not yet in her seventies. I learned that you need to find joy in every moment because those moments are limited. I learned that walking with a ventilator was possible even though talking was not. I tried to keep her spirits up, her body strong, and her mind focused on the prize as I slowly morphed into an overprotective mom. I cried a little, worried a lot, and laughed a surprising amount.

As she fought through one battle after the next, I learned that the best thing I could do was to show up everyday and be in her corner. As her health declined, we were rejected by five consecutive transplant hospitals and were running out of options. They told methat she would never be able to breathe on her own without a double lung transplant, and then they said that she was too sick to qualify for one.Ģ015 began with a prognosis of days to weeks. The year brought pneumonia, aspiration, septic shock, and something called ECMO. *2018 Book of the Year Winner* On New Year's Eve 2014, thirty-seven years into her fight with Cystic Fibrosis, my wife Rebecca went into respiratory failure and was placed on a ventilator in a medically induced coma.
